Career Brief:

A native of Ellerbe, N.C., Carter began his motorsports career in 1971 working with legendary owner L.G. DeWitt, a local highly successful peach farmer, k1.gif (9338 bytes)and two years later became that team’s crew chief. Success was immediate as Carter guided driver Benny Parsons to the 1973 NASCAR Winston Cup championship. Five years later, Carter captured his second championship while serving as crew chief for Cale Yarborough. Carter’s crew chief career also paired him with Bobby Allison, Harry Gant and Rick Mast. He compiled 31 career victories and 41 pole positions as a crew chief before making the jump to car owner in 1989.

  • Won NASCAR Winston Cup championship in rookie year as a crew chief.
  • Notched two Winston Cup titles as crew chief (1973 and 1978).
  • In 542 races as a crew chief, Carter complied 31 victories, 186 top-fives and 262 top-10s.

Career Brief:

A native of Chicago, Carl Haas is known as one of the mostk2.gif (10112 bytes) successful men in racing. In the late 1960’s Haas was one of the first road racing team owners in the country to attract major corporate sponsorship backing. In addition to co-owning Haas Carter Motorsports in NASCAR, Haas also co-owns two Champ Car teams with actor Paul Newman and Michael Andretti and Christian Fittapaldi as drivers. His CART teams have won 11 championships during the last two decades. Haas also served as chairman of the board of directors of the Sports Car Club of America and serves on the board of Championship Auto Racing Teams. He is the race organizer of The Milwaukee Mile as well as the Texaco Grand Prix of Houston. He is also a member of the board of directors at Road America. Haas was previously co-owner of Kranefuss-Haas racing from 1994-1997 on the NASCAR series. As a driver, Haas won numerous races between 1952 and the early 1960s behind the wheel of various Ferraris, Porsches, MGs and Jaguars.
